The role of the Analyst is to be fully trained and capable of carrying out all aspects of asbestos airborne fibre monitoring and analysis procedures required for the site assessment for reoccupation procedures (4SC).  They will be aware of possible fluctuations in fibre counts affected by both personal and equipment variations. They will consult with customers and/or their representative on site during site visits to carry out their work.  They will also be sufficiently trained and experienced to enable them to identify the potential for other risks factors to materialise as the work progresses.

Although able to work unsupervised, Analysts will be subject to periodic method witnessed audits by an authorised auditor to ensure continued competence.

The Analyst’s responsibilities are:

  • To ensure that all Airborne Fibre Monitoring including the site assessment for reoccupation procedures (4SC) completed on customer sites is conducted in accordance with HSG248 guidelines and FCA Technical Manual (TM02)
  • To conduct and produce suitable risk assessments before airborne fibre monitoring work commences
  • To be aware of possible fluctuations in fibre counts affected by both personal and equipment performance variations
  • To apply a professional approach and act in accordance with the requirements of the Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental Policy statements and their associated procedures
  • To manage and have an awareness of all risks that may materialise as work progresses, and communicate these to relevant management
  • Participate in the internal QC programme
  • Participate in the external RICE scheme
  • To recognise their own limitations and identify any specific training requirements necessary
  • Bulk Sample Analysis (optional and dependent on authorisation)
  • Familiarisation with the Technical Manual (TM02) to ensure that procedures and methods documented within it for all aspects of work are implemented on a day-to-day basis
  • To oversee the training programme of Trainee Analysts when assigned as a mentor
  • May be required to complete other tasks as necessitated by the needs of the business
